Gameplay trailer, v1.5 alpha demo. Arrive with nothing, work the island, walk the Ordeal.
The journey

Start as nobody. Leave with a crew.

You arrive on Cradle Rock with nothing. Take jobs that are each their own mini-game, play the inn's tables and climb the five-rung gym ladder. Then take to the sky, where every station aboard is another mini-game: sign on with the ferry's crew, or buy a ship and hire your own. Across the sky on Driftspar stands the Labyrinth, the first of the Ordeals, and its beasts wait one at a time. How each mini-game plays.

The ladder, then the LabyrinthHollow Sable runs the ladder at the Cradle Gym and Mossy Senna patches you up after. When you have topped it, the Labyrinth's gate on Driftspar opens, and the beasts are waiting on the far side, one at a time.
Create Your Hero: a full screen of faces, haircuts and beards with hair, eye and skin colour swatches, and the hero previewed beside them

The outfitterDye it, wear it, get talked about.
  • Several mini-games at once: the poker table, the Coin Drop pegboard, a Skirmish duel, the mining grid, the lumber frame and a plate in the sink

    Twelve mini-games

Dish Duty, Lumberjacking, Mining, Poker, Coin Drop, Skirmish, Sailing, Navigation, Gunnery, Carpentry, Venting and Space Battle. Every job on the island, every table in the tavern, every station on the ship and every fight is its own game. How each one plays.

  • The gym ladder board open at the Cradle Gym: five rungs from Mossy Senna to Hollow Sable, two beaten and ticked, the third live to challenge

    The Cradle Gym ladder

Five friendly bouts, easiest first. Beat them all and you are Gym Champion.

  • The Labyrinth seen whole from above, floating in the sky with drift rocks around it and its five beast gates set through the maze

    The Labyrinth Ordeal

Across the sky on Driftspar. Five beasts, one at a time, up to the Labyrinth King. Lose, and you wake back at the Cradle Gym with the healer.

  • Create Your Hero: a full screen of faces, haircuts and beards with hair, eye and skin colour swatches

    Create your hero

23 faces, 38 haircuts, 18 beards. Start in plain clothes and buy the rest.

  • A Wanted: Lumberjacks notice offering one gold per wood delivered

    One currency, earned

Gold only. It never decays, and you cannot buy it.

  • A conversation with an islander in the tavern, her name and standing shown beside what she is saying

    Hearties and rivals

Rapport runs from Despised to Confidant. Earn it and they act like it, in what they say and what they will do for you. And if the feeling runs both ways, court them: fond, then smitten, then sweethearts.

The islanders

They remember. They gossip. They say no.

You can play the whole game without saying a word to anyone. Stop and talk anyway.

The tavern on Cradle Rock: you in the middle of the floor, islanders at the bar and by the fire with their names and moods over their heads
A word across the table, in their own voice.
A Wanted: Lumberjacks notice at the market. Cogwise Fettle wants you to show you can swing before he gives you the job
Fettle will not hire a stranger. Beat him first.
  • Ask Bralo what the word is tonight

He tells you about the room you are both standing in: who just won at Coin Drop, who is hiring at the forge, who has been spinning tall tales by the fire all evening.

  • Win at the gym, and the tavern already knows

Beat someone in a friendly bout at the Cradle Gym and by the time you walk into the inn the whole cast has heard. Lose, and that goes round too.

  • Ask anyone to walk with you

They weigh how much they like you, whether they are busy, and how far off you are. Then they fall in beside you, or tell you no and why.

Conversations need a live internet connection. Everything else in the game plays offline.

On the rock

  • A Skirmish duel on a sunset deck: your falling-block board on the left, Hollow Sable's on the right, both fighters standing beside their boards
  • The inn's poker table, islanders seated round it, a hand in play
  • Coin Drop: a coin working its way down the pegs, scores for you and your rival above the board
  • The Mining board: a grid of rock chunks to rotate and drop free
  • Lumberjacking: timber pieces being stacked into the frame at the grove
  • Dish Duty: a plate in a sink of suds with three muck spots to scrub, a hot water gauge, a streak of 44 and a rack of clean plates
  • Create Your Hero: every face, haircut and beard on one screen, with the hero previewed beside them
  • The Outfitter window: shirts and vests with prices in gold, a Steel-Blue dye swatch selected
  • A Wanted: Lumberjacks notice at the market. Cogwise Fettle wants you to show you can swing before he gives you the job, one gold per wood delivered

At sea

  • Gunnery on the gun deck: six lanes of coloured rings over the cannons, Stardust lightning running down both edges of the road, the gun crew cheering with their arms up, and a x8 multiplier
  • The Space Battle, turn 5 with the box closing: a red-sailed raider takes a hit alongside the Stardust Cutter on a glowing grid, the move tokens and gun ports below
  • Sailing: rows of bricks over the ship's sails and the ball's glittering trail below them, with Drawing Well! called out
  • Navigation: a board of blue, red and yellow bubbles, the aim line rising from the ship's wheel
  • Venting: a board of gems set in the hull, a match lighting up with Spark! +12
  • Carpentry: planks fitted into a starry hole in the hull, a green outline where the next one goes, combo 2

Where it is going

The roadmap, plainly

  1. Playable now

    Cradle Rock and Driftspar

Cradle Rock, fully dressed: its jobs and tables to play, a cast who keep their own schedules and remember you, and the gym ladder. Then Driftspar, across the sky, and the Labyrinth, the first Ordeal.

Cradle Rock seen from above: the whole island, its buildings and trees, floating in the dark
  2. Playable now

    A ship and a crew

Buy a hull at the sky dock, hire a crew and sail out. Every duty station that keeps her flying is a mini-game of its own, and a voyage can end in a battle in the sky and a boarding.

The deck of a ship under way past a floating island, named crew at the helm and squaring the lashings
  3. Planned

The Ordeals, and the secret island

Eight Ordeals, each on an island of its own, each with a master waiting at the end. Every one you beat gives you a bearing on an island nobody has charted.

  4. Planned

    More to play

The mini-games here are where it starts, not where it stops. More work to take on, more games on the tavern tables, and some that belong to one island and nowhere else. New ones keep coming rather than arriving once.

  5. Planned

    A sky full of islands

A whole chart of them, each one built by hand with its own cast and its own tables, scattered across the sky at their own heights. How far your ship can carry you is what opens the map up.

No dates on purpose. Art and audio are placeholder for now.

Questions

Quick answers

  • Is Shivaliva free?

Yes. It is free on itch.io for Windows, name your own price, no sign-up.

  • What kind of game is it?

A single-player puzzle-skill adventure among floating sky-islands. The twelve mini-games are the island's jobs, the tavern's tables, the ship's duty stations and the fights: Dish Duty, Lumberjacking, Mining, Poker, Coin Drop, Skirmish, Sailing, Navigation, Gunnery, Carpentry, Venting and Space Battle.

  • Is it a Puzzle Pirates successor?

It is made in that spirit: jobs that are puzzles, a sky instead of a sea, and a crew of your own. It is one person's own game and is not affiliated with Three Rings or Grey Havens.

  • Do I need an internet connection?

Only for conversations with the islanders. Everything else in the game plays offline.

  • Is it multiplayer?

No. Shivaliva is a full single-player experience.

  • Who makes it?

Trojan Bulldog, one person, building in public in Godot 4.7. The devlog is on itch and updates are posted on X as @trojanatoplat.
